This is what we call the spiritual perfectionism. The perfectionist is not satisfied just by being saved. He’s happy that he’s born again into God’s family but he’s not content. He’s still thirsty. He wants to grow and climb up to the higher level of mountain of spiritual perfection. It is good to be a spiritual perfectionist and it is mandatory that every Christian must be a perfectionist.
Yet there are certain inherent hazards in spiritual perfectionism. Many good Christians have lost the joy of salvation because of their perfectionism. We cannot be desirous of moving forward if we are satisfied in our present stature. We must be dissatisfied in our present condition if we must desire and try to press forward. What we are now is far below the mark and that is the reason we want to move on into perfection. That is the basic concept.
When we look at ourselves in the mirror of God’s Word and understand that we are not up to the mark it becomes difficult for us to be happy. We cannot rejoice nor can we praise God. Let us learn a very important lesson today. The spiritual perfectionism is good and necessary but it must not be blown out of proportion to become a hindrance to our joy in the Lord.
It’s true that we are not perfect, but we need not take the total responsibility for that. There are various factors contributing to our spiritual stature. We put forth our best effort but we cannot decide what we become in the body of Christ. The word perfection also cannot have a common definition for all the Christians. Ultimately we fit into the body of the Bride of Christ as different organs. Some of us will be eyes and some will be nose and so on. Being completely molded to fit into that particular organ of the Body of Christ is our goal. Beyond this point we cannot let our expectations to go.
Sometimes we tell God, “Oh Lord I’m sorry that I’m not perfect”, but the Lord answers “It’s ok my child, I’m happy with you”! So the best policy we can adopt is, put forth our effort to grow and mature, leaving the final outcome in the almighty hand in Jesus but always praising the Lord for his faithfulness and ability to work out His will in our lives. Praise the Lord, and rejoice in Him today and all the days of your life.
