These are the days we are living under continuous mental stress. We’ve to struggle for our survival. We’ve to work for our survival and those who are dependent on us. Then we’ve to cope up with different kinds of personalities and their temperaments. We’ve to survive amidst the hatred, jealousy and attacks of our known and unknown enemies. All this is resulting in mental agony, sleepless nights and finally severe mental depression.
The World Health Organization discovered in one of its surveys that the two drugs that are on the highest demand are antacids and tranquillizers. Many people are unable to sleep without a tranquillizing pill. The mental stress is also resulting in high blood pressure and heart attacks.
Under such circumstances even the most godly people do suffer severe mental depression sometimes. Those who are very prayerful and honest in their spiritual walk undergo depression. It’s quite understandable that the worldly people suffer mental depression, but it is hard to understand how a good believer can suffer such depression. Usually people think that believers who walk with God are above such stress, strain and depression.
The fact is far from this notion. Spiritual and godly people have their own mental stress and strain too. Prayerful people too suffer mental depression. Those who walk closest to God too have their own unsolved problems and depression caused thereby! Apostle Paul is the most striking and wonderful example to this enigmatic situation. Even Paul had undergone such mental depression. He says that he was almost certain that he was going to die. Definitely Paul had not thought of committing suicide; but he was sure that he will die under the crushing burden of agony!
Many Christians today feel guilty because they sometimes have this mental depression. We need not feel guilty! It’s not a sin to be depressed. Paul came out of that depression victoriously and began a new glorious chapter of his ministry! The same miracle can happen to you. My dear brother/sister! Your present difficult and problematic situation will not last forever. Just continue to trust in God’s power and goodness. The Lord Jesus has promised never to leave you. Let every person in the universe be a liar, our God shall still be faithful and shall keep His word. Every man greatly used by the Lord had his own times of depression. Nobody is an exception to this statement.
If Paul could have mental depression we too can have! If Paul could come out as an overcomer, even we can and shall come out of our present painful situation and depression victoriously. Amen, Hallelujah!
